The summer holidays start in earnest next week, so now's a good time to reflect on just how wonderful Whitby looks in the sunshine.
Nestled on the picturesque North Yorkshire coastline, Whitby has always had its own special character. An independence which sets it apart from the rest.
Whether you're ambling round the shops, frequenting the many cafes or enjoying a pint in a cosy pub - Whitby is full of fantastically independent businesses, including some wonderful food and drink producers.
However, if the bustle of town isn't your thing there are plenty of other attractions. Whitby's expansive sandy beach stretches miles up the coast to Sandsend. It's a great place to while away a few hours. You'll find beautiful nuggets of sea glass amongst the pebbles and shells. And there's so much space it very rarely feels busy.
Hire a deck chair, or a beach hut, and make a day of it.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll around the harbour. Whether it's the dredger going about it's business or pleasure craft making their way in and out of the iconic piers there's always something going on.
Or, head up on the the West Cliff, enjoy the views out to sea and across to the Abbey on the East Cliff.
However you spend your time here in Whitby, you're bound to leave feeling refreshed. Our independent spirit and leisurely pace of life is infectious. Perhaps that's why so many people return year after year, and some choose to make Whtiby their home too.
